Summary

The article is dedicated to studying means of convicts’ correction and re-socialization, namely, to social and educational work, to convicts’ moral upbringing and the influence of prison subculture on convict’s upbringing. The social and educational work provides for common efforts of the administration and religious organizations aimed at the formation of prisoners’ positive activities, the instigation of universal human values to them.

Educational work is multifaceted, difficult and time-consuming in its content. After all, convict’s behavior in the period of serving sentence and his future life after releasing from the places of deprivation of liberty, and, accordingly, the well-being of society depends on the competent influence and educational intervention in one way or another. The educational process in places of deprivation of liberty is a part of a wider process of convicts’ correction, the main purpose of which is to form a respectful attitude towards a man, society, labor, norms, rules and traditions of human coexistence, increasing of their educational and cultural level.

Today, society is experiencing a moral crisis, caused primarily by the loss of Christian values in man’s personal and social life. Over time, Orthodox ethics and the foundations of Christian world outlook are lost. In the content of education there is a world-view chaos, which negatively affects convicts’ spiritual health, many of them lose the sense of life, confidence in their future.
